Divorce cake

This was my first time making a divorce cake. I started with a chocolate sponge, which I covered in chocolate fudge icing and topped with a layer of white royal icing. After chatting with my friend about the decoration she'd like on it, we decided to go with a pretty girly wonderland theme on the top and then a dirty scruffy gutter scene on the bottom. I made some legs out of black icing, which I stuck at the base of the cake, so it looked like the cake had been splattered on top of the ex husband. I made some dustbins and stuck the wedding and engagement ring out the top of them. I also made some t-shirts and a broken guitar out of icing, and stuck them to the floor near the dustbins. For the top, I punched out some flower and butterfly shapes and painted them in pink, with a dusting of edible glitter all over the top. The finishing touch was the words 'up yours' in bright pink along the front of the cake, dusted in glitter too.

Megan's 16th Birthday feb 2010

My sister, Megan wanted a fab birthday cake making for her 16th birthday party last month. I started with a round layer of chocolate cake, topped with a second square shaped layer of victoria sponge, to give it a quirky look. I covered it in white royal icing and started on the decoration. I then added zebra stripes for the top layer and brown leopard spots for the bottom, with a row of sparkly pink flowers around the join. The finishing touch was then the letters of her name made from royal icing around the base and some funky pink and black feathers fluttering out the top for added effect.

Debra's Wedding Cake

For this cake, I was given the instructions, 'three tier with black and white flowers'. So I had quite a bit of creative freedom with it! I decided on lemon curd smoothed over a madeira cake base and covered in white royal icing. For the decoration, I found a dainty little flower cutter and made lots of little black and white flowers which were stuck over the surfaces of the cake. I painted the white flowers with a dusting of edible glitter and as a finishing touch, added a string of pearly edible beads around the base of each layer.

Relief Society Birthday Party

I was asked a couple of weeks ago to make a cake for our Relief Society birthday party at Church on Thursday and couldn't wait to get it started! I decided on a chocolate fudge cake with a layer of chocolate fudge icing underneath the smooth white royal icing. For the decoration, I originally decided on gold roses made out of icing, but after a couple of attempts, they looked slightly overpowering, so I switched the decoration to more simple, yet still eye-catching sparkly blue flowers, and finished it off with a string of gold balls placed around the logo.
